Biography

Prof Michael Hoelscher is a Network Coordinator on the TB Sequel Project at Global Health & Infectious Diseases at the Department for Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine at the Medical Center of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany. He oversees activities related to the overall coordination of the consortium and the conceptualization of research, capacity development and policy activities.

Prof Hoelscher is the Director of the Department for Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine at the Medical Center of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany. He studied Medicine in Munich and joined the Department of Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine thereafter. During his internal medicine and microbiology training he took several sabbatical leaves and worked at the US Walter-Reed-Institute and the Mbeya Referral Hospital in Tanzania. In 2010, he was appointed as Professor and Director of the Global Health & Infectious Diseases. Furthermore, he is the board member of the Centre for International Health (CIH).

Prof. Hoelscher has a leadership role in PanACEA and has conducted numerous TB treatment and diagnostics trials and studies. In HIV research, he has lead HIV vaccine, diagnostic, clinical trials and Cohort studies. Furthermore, he conducted various infectious diseases studies. He has published over 180 publications dealing with HIV, TB and infectious diseases.
