Prof Sanne is a network coordinator on the TB Sequel Project at the Wits Health Consortium in South Africa. He will supervise project activities at the site and provide technical and scientific expertise on this project.
Prof Sanne is a Director at the Clinical HIV Research Unit, University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Health Sciences and Chief Executive Officer Right to Care Group of Companies. Prof Sanne also holds an Adjunct appointment at Boston University School of International Development and Health. He is the founding and Division Head of the Clinical HIV Research Unit (1997), with activities in the development, transformative, clinical research for new diagnostic and treatment of HIV, Tuberculosis and Infectious Diseases. He is also the founding Division Head of the Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Unit (2002), a collaborative effort with Boston University’s School of International Health.
Prof Sanne has a leadership role in the NIH/DAIDS funded Network AIDS Clinical Trials Group as the International Vice-Chair. The ACTG is the largest and most prolific HIV, TB and Hepatitis treatment research network with over 75 sites in 13 countries. Linked to all the DAIDS funded Networks the Wits HIV Clinical Trials Unit headed by Prof. Sanne are active adult treatment, paediatric treatment, PMTCT, HIV prevention and microbicide research. With over 160 peer review publications which Prof. Sanne has co-authored, and over 380 publications produced by the Clinical HIV Research Unit and HE2RO.
