Biography

Professor Wallis is internationally recognized for his research on the development of tuberculosis biomarkers and the treatment of tuberculosis using novel antimicrobial drugs and host-directed therapies. He is a physician and a scientist.

His career has included roughly equal periods with full-time university faculty appointments, and positions in the pharmaceutical industry, where he led the development of sutezolid, a new oxazolidinone antimicrobial drug for tuberculosis treatment.

Professor Wallis presently is Chief Science Officer of the Aurum Institute, a non-profit research facility based in Johannesburg, where he leads multiple studies of adjunctive host-directed tuberculosis therapies and new regimens for drug-resistant tuberculosis.
